It has been proven that love can reduce stress. There are many arguments on how and why love has such a big impact on stress levels but I actually think it is rather straight forward.
How Love Reduces Stress
Firstly, the very act of being in love and that person returning your feelings means that you have an ally against all the stressful events in life. For example, you have had a bad day in work or school. As you finish the first thing you can do is to pick up the phone or met up with your loved one and share why you are stressed out. This simple act of talking about you problems puts you in a better frame of mind.
Secondly, an unlimited source of hugs. When you are a child, the safest place in the world is in your parents arm. It is ingrained into us that a hug can make everything feel better. When you are in love with your partner you can always get a hug to make you day that little bit better.
Thirdly, love conquers all. I am not talking about together in love you can take on the world, although this is true ;), i am talking about the feeling you get when you are in love. That warm feeling you get when you think about that one you love. That feeling can unquestionably reduce the stress you feel about anything.
Ok, I have not been very scientific with the examples above but we do have something that scientist call the ‘love hormone’ oxytocin. Oxytocin is a feel good hormone that can reduce the effect of Cortisol, a stress hormone, therefore making us more relaxed.
There we have it. Love reduces stress, now time to share the love and reduce stress levels all over the world 🙂
